A strange and at least some hybrid CD, that Road House Party: a first series of funky rock songs of his own making, and a handful of covers of famous pop songs. The music of Kimon & The Prophets on this album is of a reasonable but not high level, and floats on an (almost) 'overdose' on covers, so that the mess a little right to keep as their own songs again a little medium. The opener and title song Road House Party is a nice bluesy number that is best doorkan, but the next issue of the Far Off Place (ordinary) funk rock of dubious stature and really not my thing. Unfortunately there are still some of that kneusjes on this record. But fortunately it follows as the third song on the album Time To Move On, that once a suit is better, because this is a very nice straightforward rock song, with a little imagination a sort of George Thorogood 'light' can be called, and which is already quite something. Also You Beautiful Thing, You is propelled by a funky groove and rock music is pretty good, just like Light Up The Stars moreover, that not wrong and adorned by a fine funk guitar and fine (together) vocals. But have we really had to regard their own songs.

For the rest, drains trade. Sorry, but we are strict. Then we come to the chapter of the covers. Two songs by David Bowie are now removed by the mangle: Rebel, Rebel and Heroes. It is at least a delicate business to tackle such issues. And although I am reluctant original songs, neither interpretation can really tempt me here. Not that there is something very wrong with that, but they add absolutely nothing to the original classics - a familiar trap for covers of songs that are ingrained in the collective memory! - And thus stand out in redundancy. Very very good contrast is the version of Nick Lowe's (What's So Funny About) Peace, Love And Understanding, recently we were experiencing in the version of the master himself, the concert of unsurpassed Ry Cooder and Nick Lowe in Antwerp. This version is almost as good as Lowe himself, and that is definitely a compliment! Jimi Hendrix "Fire can also be bad either, and it is best enjoyed by those blown white hot funk blues, with that typical-Hendrix guitar, but again the mastery of the original. But, you obviously know as a musician, as you approach the work of Hendrix. The only cover that the original approach and is perhaps even exceeds that of The Boys Of Summer by Eagles frontman Don Henley-. Highly charged atmosphere with beautiful guitar work, but it is also one hell of a song. No, this record I will not run more often, I know already now for the avid enthusiast there is also a live DVD in, but I do not know if we in this case to be so happy. As for me, much prefer a strong record over many bells and whistles. Back to basics!
